To mark the release of Tony, the new film about the early career of Anthony Bourdain, the Sydney Fish Market is inviting seafood lovers to take a culinary tour inspired by some of the chef’s favourite dishes.
Before he was the world’s favourite foodie, Anthony Bourdain was learning to shuck oysters in Provincetown, Massachusetts, as a 19-year-old in the summer of 1976. Those formative months are the subject of Tony, a new movie about the late chef and to celebrate its release on August 20, Sydney Fish Market has created a self-guided food trail that captures the coastal flavours of that time.
Bourdain, who died in 2018, preached the food philosophy of eating where the locals eat, finding what’s fresh and talking to the people selling the ingredients. And that’s the attitude you should bring to Sydney Fish Market’s “Tony Trail”. You’ll need to bring a healthy appetite too!
Running from August 5 – 23, the Tony Trail is a self-guided eating tour through the market’s fishmongers and restaurants, built around the dishes popular in the northeastern region of the United States where Bourdain first fell in love with working in a restaurant.
What’s on the Tony Trail?
There’s no set route and no ticket to the Tony Trail. It’s a self-guided adventure around the Market’s best traders and restaurants, leaning heavily into Cape Cod’s culinary influences.
Grab a lobster roll and seafood chowder from The Boatshed and Squid Inc, steamed lobster from Claudio’s Seafood, Musumeci, Christie’s Seafood and Nicholas Seafood, or bouillabaisse from Touch Wood, to name a few options.
In the spirit that Bourdain brought to his adventurous approach to food, diners are encouraged to try something new and chat with those serving up these special morsels.
All up, 13 vendors and restaurants are taking part in the promotion, showcasing their fresh produce and kitchen creations that honours Bourdain’s legacy.
