- City of Sydney has unveiled plans for its 2026 Christmas in Sydney celebrations.
- From Christmas lights and fairs to concerts and markets, there’s no shortage of things to do.
- This year’s program also includes plenty of free festivities for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Ho Ho Ho Sydney! It looks like Lord Mayor Clover Moore is donning a Santa hat this year, as the Government unveils plans for Sydney Christmas 2026 celebrations.
Sydney’s festive calendar is brimming with Christmas events, as the government aims to draw both locals and tourists to celebrate a classic sun-soaked Aussie Christmas. The festivities bring back the iconic Martin Place tree, one of the city’s Christmas centrepieces, plus a variety of fairs, concerts, choirs and markets to put you in a holly jolly mood.
“With festive street fairs and concerts, choirs and the epic tree in Martin Place, the elves at the City of Sydney are busy preparing a Christmas to remember,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.
“These free events are our gift to city residents and visitors, and I encourage everyone to come along, join the festivities and experience the magic of Christmas in Sydney.”
We’ve rounded up the highlights of Sydney’s 2026 Christmas celebrations, and with just two months to go, it’s time for you to get planning.

Santa photos
Snapping a photo with Santa is a lovely way to commemorate Christmas, and where better to do it than at David Jones? The department store transforms a room into a festive wonderland, decked out in red, green and gold, with beautifully wrapped presents and plenty of seasonal decorations setting the scene for that perfect holiday snap.
This is probably the most popular place for a Santa picture in Sydney, so to secure your spot, use the link here to pre-book. Multiple session options are available, including Santa Pawtraits, Sensitive Santa and standard sessions. Photo packages range from $30.85 to $99.96 and include your main photo in a custom David Jones sleeve.
If that’s a bit out of your budget, head to any one of the Christmas Fairs mentioned above, and you can snap a selfie with Santa for just $5.
