If there’s one day we can get around, it’s World Tequila Day. Sydney’s love for margs is well documented, and next Thursday brings an excuse (not that we need one) to have one or two. Some of our favourite bars are taking things a step further, with a week-long tequila trail, complete with complimentary pours.

Cantina OK!, Centro 86 and Tio’s Cerveceria will host Sydney’s first tequila trail from Tuesday, July 22 until Saturday, July 26. Here’s everything we know.

Taking Tequila Day through the week

MUCHO Group clearly doesn’t think one day is long enough to celebrate everyone’s favourite Mexican spirit. They’re putting on a full fiesta in the form of a new tequila trail, that’ll take you through three of our favourite margarita bars in Sydney CBD.

Cantina OK! is a “micro mezcal Mecca”. Don’t underestimate it just based on it’s size โ€“ it’s been recognised as Australia’s best bar, ranked among the World’s Top 50 bars and its Margarita OK! has been named one of the five best cocktails in the world. And you can score some free tequila at this award-winning bar next week. Lucky you!

Centro 86, meanwhile, is a basement bar serving margaritas, tequila and popcorn. It’s a combination you didn’t know you needed in your life. As you step in from Pitt Street, you find a dark, psychedelic spot where you have more than 100 tequilas to choose from.

Rounding off the trio is Tio’s Cerveceria, a long-time institution that’s been the go-to spot for cold beers, colder margaritas and hot popcorn since 2011. It’s Surry Hills’ ultimate tequila-fuelled fun house.

How it works

You’ll need a digital Tequila Trail pass to take part. It’s easy to get your hands on one though โ€“ just register online at muchogroup.com.au. With your passport, your first glass will be free.

There’s no set order you have to complete the trail in. Start at any of the three bars and present your pass to claim your first glass of Herradura Tequila. Youโ€™ll receive a trail postcard to carry to the remaining stops, and make sure you keep a hold of it. No postcard, no tequila.

You have all week to complete the trail, so don’t worry. It won’t be a case of one tequila, two tequila, three tequila โ€“ floor!
