The Sydney Opera House is set to turn up the volume after restrictions on capacity and sound levels were lifted, paving the way for larger events and allowing late-night concerts to match the scale of daytime performances.
In great news for music lovers heading to the iconic Sydney Opera House, it’s been revealed that regulations on sound and capacity have been lifted, meaning the waterfront foreshore space will be able to host larger and louder concerts.
The prospect of larger, louder gigs may ruffle feathers among residents of the neighbouring luxury apartment block known as “The Toaster”, but the NSW Government is firmly backing this return to bigger live events at the Sydney Opera House.
Previous rules, which stated that noise levels had to be cut from 107 decibels to 102 at 10pm have been scrapped, meaning that shows can run for longer and later into the night.
Events on the foreshore will now be able to hold 7000 people, with major events previously being capped at 6000. For low or medium-scale shows, the capacity has been lifted from 5000 to 6000.
The major shows will also now be able to run from 8am to midnight every day of the week. Existing rules state that shows must wrap up by 10:30pm Sunday to Thursday and 11:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
