North Sydney’s newest food festival, VicX’s “The X Series”, has been created to showcase the buzzing foodie precinct hanging above the eponymous metro station.
It’s been a year since the new Sydney Metro stations popped up around Sydney, each distinguished with their own art installations or unique features designed to make the transit experience feel more lively and necessary in Sydney.
Martin Place has the tech-forward Muru Giligu, for example, and North Sydney’s Victoria Cross has a sprawling food hall featuring some of Sydney’s most tried-and-true fast-casuals, including TokyoTaco, Mary’s Burgers and Dopa.
It seems like everyday a new food festival is popping up in Sydney, deepening our dynamic culinary scene and pushing some of our best kitchen’s to step up and experiment. We already know we’re soon getting a new Native Australian food festival, and the fabulous Bankstown Bites just wrapped up a smorgasbord of multi-cultural eats. Now North Sydney’s getting in on the action with VicX, and it’s hanging its entire concept on collaboration.
Essentially, collaboration is what takes a city’s food scene from good to great. You’ll see cross-kitchen creations constantly pumping through the restaurants of some of the world’s greatest food cities, including San Francisco, Chicago and Osaka. And so seeing what such close collaboration produces from these outlets gives people something new and exciting to try.
For four weeks, VicX will inspire new dishes from these vendors with The X Series, running from Thursdays to Sundays each week (from August 7) with limited-edition menu items you won’t find anywhere else in town.
“The X Series is all about creating moments you can’t get anywhere else,” said Monique De Cseuz, Director of Retail and Place at Landlease.
“Each collaboration is a one-time experience that brings together amazing Sydney institutions and our retailers in exciting and unexpected ways. We’re so proud to showcase the energy and creativity that make VicX a cornerstone of North Sydney’s food scene.”
Each week will bring something new to try at VicX, kicking off with a nice little four-item menu created by Mary’s and Indian-inspired food truck Pocket Rocketz.
Mary’s still kick up a storm at the forefront of Sydney’s burger scene, having grown from a rock & roll church in Newtown to having multiple locations around the city. But they’ve never done a South Asian collaboration before, so we’re excited to head across the bridge to try any on of the following:
- Cheeseburger spaceship jafffle
- Fried chicken burger with 64-hour butter chicken sauce and fried chicken
- Hash browns with chaat masala and tandoori mayo
- Chai masala soft serve with saunf mithai
The above are only available from August 7-10, and then it’s onto the next collaboration between Dopa and Cherry’s Goods. Available from August 14-17, the two brands have put together a sweet-treats menu featuring:
- White chocolate and pistachio matcha cookie (paired with iced or hot matcha latte)
- White chocolate matcha cookie (paired with iced or hot matcha latte)
Week three (August 21-23) will be all about what happens at the intersection of Tokyo Taco and ToroToro Ramen. The unexpected fusion dials up the heat with two new creations that are yet to be revealed. They’ll be doing a chipotle broth, chicken chashu, miso blackened corn, nori yuzu oil, shiso, seasoned egg and TokyoTaco nori crunch, and a Ramen Noodle TokyoTostada with ponzu seasoned salmon sashimi, avocado, cured melon, sesame, salmon row and TokyoTaco nori.
