- Hot Fellas Bakery Darlinghurst: pop-up café is now open in Darlinghurst for this weekend only
- HBO Max and AP Bakery have partnered up to celebrate the release of And Just Like That… season three
- Free pastries and coffees will be served all weekend until sold-out
If you’ve got a hankering for a Friday morning coffee and pastry, and happen to be near Oxford Street, there’s one place to go: Hot Fellas Bakery.
Usually only found in the Sex and the City spin-off series And Just Like That… this bakery has been recreated for Sydneysiders for one weekend. Sydney’s favourites, AP Bakery, have taken over yet another corner, teaming up with HBO Max to launch the pop-up, and it’s now open.
The fictional bakery is owned by Anthony Marantino, the fabulous Sicilian-American event planner and Charlotte’s long-time friend. Following his divorce from Stanford, Anthony starts his own bread business and it takes off — he’s even interviewed by Drew Barrymore.

Free pastries and coffees
As if all the fun of seeing Anthony’s bakery irl wasn’t enough, everything on the menu is free. There are even denim tote bags up for grabs if you’re lucky. You’re limited to one pastry each, so you do unfortunately have to choose between sweet and savoury, but you can’t really go wrong. Here are your options:
Vegemite babka — Aside from the team of hot fellas, Anthony’s bakery is famed for its sourdough babka, but they’ve been given an Aussie twist, lined with Vegemite and topped with cheese. It’s the ultimate salty savoury pastry.
AP Buttermilk croissant — AP couldn’t open a new location without their OG fan-favourites, could they? Golden on the outside, soft in the middle, and the perfect partner for a coffee.
Golden Gaytime cream puff — These are the most eye-catching of the pastries. A hybrid between the classic ice cream and a cream puff pastry, there’s a toffee and vanilla cream filling and crunchy biscuit topping.
Upon entry, you can stop at the coffee station to order a cup of the good stuff to enjoy with your pastry. Free, too, of course.
I opted for the savoury option, the babka, as it felt like the perfect opportunity to lose my Vegemite virginity. The combination of sweet braided pastry lined with Vegemite and topped with melted cheese and a sprinkle of salt was a winner for me. If you’re not a big fan of salt, maybe one of the sweet options instead — the creme puffs looks heavenly.
Selling like hotcakes
We knew doors were opening at 10am and, when we arrived at 9:50am, the queue was growing fast. Within 15 minutes, it was winding down Flinders Street. Queues are only going to get bigger over the weekend, so arrive early.
You only have a brief window of time each day, and they will close earlier if everything is already sold out. Opening times are: 10am–12pm on Friday, June 27, then from 8am–12pm on Saturday and Sunday. Set your alarms and get down for your free pastry and coffee fix this weekend.
