After decades of planning, the brand-new Sydney Fish Market at Blackwattle Bay will open its doors on Sunday 19 January 2026, marking a spectacular new era for Sydney’s waterfront.

This isn’t just a facelift. The $700-million redevelopment transforms the city’s iconic seafood hub into a full-day dining and leisure precinct, combining the drama of a working market with sunset cocktails, cooking classes, and harbour views worthy of your camera roll.

Welcome to Blackwattle Bay

Set beside the ANZAC Bridge and minutes from the CBD, the new market anchors Sydney’s Bays Precinct, replacing the ageing Pyrmont site with a sustainable, design-forward destination.

Its wave-like timber roof — designed by Danish architects 3XN with BVN and Aspect Studios — is already turning heads.

By night, the structure glows with an illuminated pattern inspired by fish scales, joining the Opera House and Harbour Bridge in Sydney’s architectural hall of fame.

Construction finishes in late 2025, with traders fitting out their spaces over summer before the public launch in January. The old Pyrmont market will remain open through Christmas 2025 for its legendary 36-hour seafood marathon.

How to Get There

| Ferry | A new Blackwattle Bay wharf (opening 2026) will link the market to Barangaroo and Circular Quay. |

You’ll still see trawlers unloading the morning’s catch and hear the auctioneer’s rhythmic calls — but now, the same space flows into bars and restaurants where you can enjoy that catch minutes later.

The design encourages movement: start with breakfast on the terrace, wander the retail arcade, join a cooking demo, then wind down with champagne and oysters as the sunset reflects off the ANZAC Bridge.
