The longest weekend of the year is right around the corner, with the Easter Long Weekend in 2025 falling on Friday, April 3 to Monday, April 6. As always with public holidays, you might be wondering what’s open when it comes to all the essentials: the supermarkets, the bottle shops, the petrol stations and all other major stores and services around Sydney.
The breakdown for the four-day weekend is as follows:
- Good Friday: Friday, April 3
- Easter Saturday: Saturday, April 4
- Easter Sunday: Sunday, April 5
- Easter Monday: Monday, April 6
Supermarkets and bottleshops
Woolworths
Make sure you stock up on those Woolworths Easter eggs before Good Friday hops around. All Woolworths stores across the state will be closed on Good Friday. Standard trading hours will resume on Saturday, but the majority of stores will close on Sunday. Monday will operate with reduced trading hours, so you’ll need to check with your local supermarket on individual trading hours.

Coles
All Coles stores will be closed on Good Friday, and will operate on reduced trading hours for Easter Monday. That said, Saturday and Sunday will have normal trading hours, although some small local stores may reduce their trading hours. It’s best to check in with the closest Coles, so you’re aware of when they’re open.

Aldi
Your local Aldi store isn’t any different from the other supermarkets on Good Friday. You’ll find that all stores are closed at the start of the Easter long weekend, but they should all be open as per usual on Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and even Easter Monday.

Bunnings
If you wake up on Good Friday and feel like painting your house, you might be met with a slight tinge of disappointment. All Bunnings stores across the state are closed on Good Friday, but all of them will resume normal trading hours for Easter Saturday. Bunnings falls in line with the NSW Easter Sunday Trading restrictions, so you’ll find that only some stores open on the Sunday. All Bunnings stores are open on Easter Monday.

Target
All Target stores are closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. However, your local Target should be open with regular hours on Easter Saturday and reduced hours on Easter Monday.

Kmart
You won’t be able to shop at Kmart on Good Friday since all stores will be closed. Everything is open once again on Easter Saturday, but only a few regional stores stay open for Easter Sunday. Most Kmart stores should be open on Easter Monday, but it’s best to check with your local store just in case.

Big W
All Big W stores will be closed on Good Friday, and most will also shut on Easter Sunday. You’ll have no problems on Saturday, but there will be reduced opening hours on Monday.

Westfield
Your local Westfield shopping centre is closed on both Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Things open back up on Saturday (9:30am-7pm) and Monday, but with reduced hours (10am-7pm).

Liquorland, Vintage Cellars & First Choice Liquor
All of these ubiquitous bottle shops are closed on Good Friday, and you’ll be very limited if you want to buy any last-minute drinks. Although all stores should spring back open on Saturday, in NSW, Good Friday and Easter Sunday are legally restricted trading days, and most liquor stores must remain closed unless exempt.

This is the big one. Where to find booze on Good Friday is always trending on Google each time the Easter Long Weekend rolls around. You’re out of luck on Friday. All Dan Murphys and BSW stores will be closed for Good Friday, but stores should reopen on Saturday and Monday. Some stores, however, may be operating with reduced trading hours.
