While an official line-up is still weeks away, Good Things Festival have announced venues for this year’s touring festival, showing significant growth for the event.
It’s rare to see good news for big-ticket music festivals in Australia as of late. Yet, despite some headline events like Splendour in the Grass and Groovin’ The Moo facing uncertain futures, this largely punk and metal-centric festival is bucking the trend as attention to flows to more niche festivals.
It makes sense. The Good Things Festival line-up last year was so unseasonably strong and baked in nostalgia that it was one of year’s biggest concerts, with headliners and nu-metal icons Korn leading the likes of Billy Corgan, Jet, Violent Femmes, The Gaslight Anthem and Mastodon. Nostalgia-baiting rockers Sum 41 were also scheduled to play but were forced to pull out of their Australian dates after frontman Deryck Whibley was diagnosed with pneumonia.
Furthermore, the festival is showing the biggest growth in Sydney. Melbourne and Brisbane venues remain the same for the touring event, but this year’s Sydney leg pushes the festival from the smaller grassy knoll of Centennial Park to the Sydney Showground. This ups capacity considerably, allowing more punters and move venues to be utilised.
Good Things Festival in Sydney is scheduled for Saturday, December 6.
