It’s long been regarded as one of Sydney’s little-known treasures. Tucked away in the southeast pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the BridgeClimb Pylon Lookout & Museum offered visitors sweeping views of the Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and far beyond.
While more adventurous – and perhaps well-heeled – visitors donned the jumpsuit and scaled the much-loved structure on the popular BridgeClimb, others hauled themselves up the 200 steps into the pylon and enjoyed views which are equally as impressive for a fraction of the cost.
But the museum’s opening hours, particularly during summer months, didn’t always align with visitors’ desires to linger and watch the setting sun.
However when it reopens at the end of May, the BridgeMuseum has extended its hours and will also have a new “elevated experience”. Sky House After Hours, 87 metres above sea-level, will have visitors relaxing with a drink and nibbling on canapés on a wraparound lookout as the day draws to a close.
The BridgeMuseum, designed as a self-guided journey, aims to educate visitors about the building of the bridge, which took eight years and thousands of workers.
Interactive displays, multimedia storytelling and historic artefacts have also been included in the extensive upgrade to give visitors an immersive experience and fresh perspective on the history of the iconic bridge and what it means to the city.

“This transformation gives our domestic and international visitors a new way to discover the Bridge’s history, and engineering – full of moments that spark curiosity and connection. It also recognises the enduring relationship the Gadigal have with this land and harbour, long before the Bridge was built.”
First Nations perspectives are central to the experience, and the new museum features cultural insights and art from the Gadigal to enrich the journey of discovery. The new displays will highlight the Bridge’s construction, cultural significance, and ongoing role in
Sydney’s living heritage.
How much does it cost to visit the Sydney Harbour BridgeMusuem?
Standard entry to a day session for an adult is $39.95, a child (3–13) $22.95 and concession $35.95. Children under 3 are free. Operators recommend allowing around 60–90 minutes to explore the museum’s exhibitions and discover the history and stories of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, but there’s no set time limit.
The SkyHouse After Hours costs $79 per adult.
