Sonically divisive, incredibly distinctive. Yeat has emerged as one of the trendiest names in the new crop of young rappers shifting hip hop’s with dystopian beats and vocal modulations. He’s been consistently the most in-demand artist for a new generation of rap fans, so the only surprise about his debut Australian tour is why it took so long for Live Nation to bring him down in the first place.

Yeat, fresh from his viral performance at California’s iconic Coachella music festival, is bringing his The Bell Down Under Tour to Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Sydney. It’s a big tick in the right direction for Australia’s allure for big international acts, particularly as Sydney attempts to push for a brighter, more vibrant lifestyle scene for all ages.

That said, this tour will be 18+, which cuts out a big chunk of his demographic.

Sydney is squeezed into the middle of Yeat’s Australian tour, having him at Hodern Pavilion on Tuesday, October 14.

Of his new tour, authoritative rap publication HotNewHipHop described Yeat’s new show, which he premiered at Cochella, as the perfect symbol for his distinctive sound.

“Premiered at Cochella with a towering 50-foot bell looming behind him, the moment wasn’t just theatricalโ€”it was symbolic,” wrote the US outlet.

“The performance merged sound and spectable, a deliberate fusion that reflects Yeat’s growing ambition to turn concerts into immersive experience.”

Why is Yeat so popular?

Yeat’s dystopian take on hip hop coupled with trendy modulated vocals and slurred vocals resonated with an always-online generation immediately. Born Noah Smith, the rapper shares some DNA with Atlanta’s pioneering trends, steadily building a following before the recent release of his newest album, LYFESTYLE, which shot straight to the top of the Billboard 200 album charts with 89,000 equivalent albums sold.

The 24-year old artist first gained attention in 2021, striking hard during the pandemic with his song “Get Busy,” which swiftly went viral and landed him some high-profile collaborations, including with Drake on his chat-topping single “IDGAF”. To date, Yeat has earned over 16 billion global streams, placing him in the same league as stadium-sized rappers like Travis Scott and Future.
