Nightshift festival is bringing noodle raves and Greek feasts to Redfern next week

My interest in writing grew after completing work experience at The Guardian Newspaper in London. I then studied English Literature at University, where I was the Director of Commentary at Wayzgoose Magazine, which focused on student life, arts and culture. After moving to Sydney in 2023, I became fascinated with travel journalism and the diverse number of events and activities that Sydney has to offer.

  • Nightshift festival will take over Wunderlich Lane in Redfern on June 16.
  • It will consist of a week-long celebration with different events hosted by the venues that make up the bustling precinct.
  • These events include noodle raves, vinyl pizza parties and funky jazz sessions.

Shopping and dining haven Wunderlich Lane sits on the intersection of bustling Cleveland Street and Baptist Street, at the crossroads of Surry Hills and Redfern. To celebrate its first winter, the chic precinct will host Nightshift, a week-long collaboration and celebration of all the best venues in the dining haven.

Wunderlich Lane has been a hit with Sydneysiders since it opened in 2024, boasting several of Sydney’s hottest venues, including Greek taverna Olympus, the flashy EVE hotel, groovy noodle bar Island Radio and even a Harris Farm.

What’s on at Nightshift?

Nightshift will kick off on June 16, starting with a huge Greek feast at one of Sydney’s most in-demand new restaurants (and sister to Potts Point fave, The Apollo), Olympus.

In this “ode to the ancient Greek festival of Haloa and the winter feast of Poseidon”, Olympus will be serving up a whole range of mouth-watering dishes, including pickled mussels, chargrilled dolmades, whole roasted milk-fed lamb leg and a silky Greek yogurt soft serve with fig leaf oil.

Tuesday night will be run by radio icons Myf Warhurst and Zan Rowe, who will host the ‘The Best Music Quiz Ever’ at Baptist Street Rec, the sultry neighbourhood cocktail and wine tavern celebrating the quirky spirit of 1980s and ’90s Australia. Wednesday night will include a vinyl pizza party by Regina La Pizzeria and the Bondi’s S’wich team (who will soon be opening a brand-new store there) as well as funky jazz sessions at Bar Julius.

Thursday night will see a collaborative event by super cool lifestyle brand Saarde, held in their first flagship store, with snacks from neighbouring hotspot Saltbox and an abundance of hot toddies and mulled wine.

Saturday night will see vibrant Southeast Asian diner Island Radio host a delicious, bass-heavy noodle rave on winter solstice, the longest night of the year. Fuelled by Southeast Asian island food and drinks, come for the food and stay for the laser beams, good times, and a very special DJ line-up, including headline act JNETT and a host of other local DJs. When your feet need a break, refuel with some noodles and jump back in.

It’s also never a party without Messina, who will be serving up their signature gelato at Regina X Messina: a laneway party of wood-fired pizza and Italo disco.
