  • Snoop Dogg is performing two DJ sets in Sydney this weekend, first popping into new Western Sydney nightclub Bella Live on Saturday, September 27 before making his way over to North Sydney’s Greenwood Hotel on Sunday, September 28.
  • Jumping behind the decks as DJ Snoopadelic, the hip hop icon will show Sydney some love before heading down to Melbourne to headline the AFL Grand Final pregame show.
  • Snoop Dogg’s appearance at the AFL Grand Final has sparked fierce debate among some due to the media mogul’s recent comments about gay marriage.

Hip hop legend Snoop Dogg has been to Australia many times before, but you’d be mistaken for thinking its the Doggfather’s first time down under given the controversy that keeps swimming around his AFL Grand Final pregame show.

Critics have cited past lyrics from the rapper, deeming them homophobic, misogynistic and violent in an attempt to dissuade the AFL from working with the rapper. This is despite the artist having played in Sydney at least three times in the previous decade.

Despite any drummed-up controversy, Snoop will be performing at the AFL Grand Final on Saturday, September 27, which is the same date he’s due to morph into DJ mode for Western Sydney’s fresh-faced Bella Live nightclub in Bella Vista. That means he’ll be playing the AFL early in the night before jetting up to Sydney for the weekend, planning two shows as a DJ.

But we all know that DJ sets from big-name artists like this almost always spill into a performance or two. We expect Snoop to be filling the dancefloor with some curated tunes while he takes position behind the decks of Bella Live and Greenwood Hotel. But we’re also expecting him to grab the mic for a song or two, given he has many hits to pull from including “Beautiful,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” and “Gin & Juice.”

Snoop Dogg at Bella LIVE

Bella Vista’s new cutting-edge nightclub only opened a few weeks ago and has already locked in an impressive schedule of performers in the coming months. Snoop Dogg is the most eye-catching name on the schedule, with DJ Snoopadelic jumping behind the DJ decks on Saturday, September 27 with doors opened at 9pm.

“Expect nothing but iconic West Coast vibes,” the nightclub says in a statement. “[This is a] party that will go down in Bella LIVE history.”

The nightclub is, understandably, going all out for his royal Snoop-ness. General admission tickets range from $79 – $99, while door sales are set at $110 per person. Gold tickets, which net you express entry, prime views and exclusive bar access, are priced at $149. But if you the ultimate package, go for a VIP booth. They are $3,000 each and come with a bottle service package. All tickets can be booked via Eventbrite.

Do we need to point out how big this is for Western Sydney? This is, to my knowledge, the first time a bonafide hip hop icon has performed in the region, hopefully kickstarting a trend of big-ticket artists showing Western Sydney some more love now that the region has a few venues that can support such demand. And it’s opposite a Metro stop nonetheless, making it easier for people from the city to head on out to Bella Vista for the night, and get home afterwards.

Snoop Dogg at Greenwood Hotel

Snoop will wake up after a big night in Bella Vista and make his way over to North Sydney’s long-standing Greenwood Hotel for his second DJ set of the weekend. Once again slinking into DJ Snoopafella mode, the rapper will spin some tunes for a special pop-up show alongside live performances from New Zealand icon Savage. DJ Nino Brown, Latifa Tee, ARIA, Darley, Helena Ellis, K-Time and more.

There will be no other Australian appearances for Snoop after he performs at Greenwood Hotel so this is a very rare opportunity to catch him in a more casual setting before he heads on back to United States.

Note that this show is sold out, but you can join a waitlist on the Greenwood Hotel website.
