- A new 25hours Hotel is set to open on Oxford Street in September.
- It will feature 109 guest rooms as well as four food and beverage venues.
- Bookings are now open, so we looked into what makes 25hours Hotel The Olympia different.
In 2021, it was announced that the long-vacant space on Oxford Street, formerly home to the West Olympia Theatre and later the Grand Pacific Blue Room, would be transformed into Australia’s first 25hours Hotel. True to its cinematic history, it will be named 25 Hours The Olympia, an ode to the former theatre.
With bookings now live and the grand opening just around the corner, we took a closer look at what sets the new hotel apart, and how its rates compare to other key players on Oxford Street.
What will it be like?
25hours hotels are known for their funky approach to hospitality. Their website states, “At 25hours, we create individualised, made-to-measure hotels with personality located in the most vibrant cities.”
The hotel has been designed to celebrate Sydney’s creative and artistic heritage. With its prime location on vibrant Oxford Street, home to iconic cultural venues and just moments from the National Art School, it’s no surprise that this artistic angle is central to their vision. It will also honour the building’s cinematic past, with a lobby that pays tribute to film culture and curated pieces throughout the hotel that reference the theatre’s golden age.
The hotel will feature 109 guest rooms, split into two categories: ‘Dreamers’ and ‘Renegades’, inspired by quintessential film protagonists. The Dreamer rooms will be located on levels two and four, evoking calmness with their light-filled rooms, serene atmosphere and soft blue tones. The Renegade rooms on levels one and three will be more edgy, with a moodier colour palette and artwork that channels a more rebellious vibe.

Four venues in one hotel
The hotel will feature four venues, three of which are collaborations with London-based hospitality group Studio Paskin. Their Australian debut is an exciting addition to Sydney’s dining scene, as they are known for their award-winning restaurants and venues.
They are collaborating with the new 25hours Hotel The Olympia in Paddington to launch three new dining venues. The hotel, set to open September 25, will feature The Palomar restaurant, The Mulwray wine and cocktail bar and Jacob the Angel coffee house.
- The Palomar: a 110-seat restaurant with influences from Southern Europe, North Africa and the Levant. Already a famous venue in London, courtesy of Studio Paskin, the restaurant will have an open kitchen and utilise fresh Australian produce.
- The Mulwray: An intimate cocktail and wine bar, named after Evelyn Mulwray from the 1974 film Chinatown. The bar will feature classic cocktails and organic wines.
- Jacob the Angel: Located on the ground floor, this is the hotel’s cafรฉ, where guests can grab coffee to recharge after exploring the city.
There will also be Monica, a rooftop bar inspired by a 1960s Hollywood vibe, featuring bold patterns and local murals. With its prime location and vibrant, stylish design, this spot is poised to become the new it-bar of Paddington.

What makes it different?
What sets the new 25hours Olympia apart from other hotels in the area is its size. Other hotels on Oxford Street include Oxford House, which has 55 guest rooms, and Mrs Banks, which has 30. With 109 rooms and four unique venues under one roof, 25hours Olympia positions itself as a dynamic hospitality destination, not just a place to stay.
This is reflected in its rates. A stay at Oxford House would start at roughly $180 to $200 per night, depending on the time of year. Mrs Banks has a similar starting rate, at around $200-$210 per night. Rates at 25hours Hotel The Olympia start from $399 per night, which is significantly more than its neighbouring hotels. However, 25hours are generally categorised as luxury hotels, and The Olympia will be no different.
The hotel aims to attract both locals and tourists, with its venues, particularly the Monica rooftop bar, set to enhance the area’s nightlife. Since the temporary closure of the Unicorn Hotel, that side of Paddington has been noticeably quieter over the past year. The hope is that the new hotel will help reinvigorate this end of Oxford Street.
