We’ve scoured the city to find the best things to do in Sydney this week, so you can make the most of your visit.

Australian Fashion Week has taken over with runway shows all week. These shows are invite-only, but The Studio at Carriageworks is hosting a series of events aimed at fashion-lovers who want to get involved. If you feel the need to revamp your wardrobe before going along, check out one of the warehouse sales taking place in Paddington this week.

If sport’s more your scene, go to a Swans or GWS Giants game and cheer on your favourite Sydney team. The Women’s State of Origin is also on this Thursday at the Allianz Stadium, offering a night of exciting but intense competition, with tickets starting at only $19.

In foodie news, the Pyrmont Food and Wine Festival is bringing family fun to Pirrama Park for its 13th year, with a whole host of sweet and savoury stalls offering mouthwatering produce. The festival is also child-friendly and dog-friendly, so there’s no excuse not to bring anyone along.

We bid farewell to the Sydney Comedy Festival this week, as it wraps up on Sunday, so make sure to get in some last-minute laughs at the final few shows this week, or enjoy the official goodbye at the End of Festival Gala.

The Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes Exhibition

The Archibald, Wynne, and Sulman Prizes Exhibition is back! The winners were announced on May 9, and the exhibition opened the following day. Head to the Art Gallery of NSW to see Julie Fragar’s ethereal portrait, Flagship Mother Multiverse (Justene), which was awarded the prestigious 2025 Archibald Prize.

More than 2,390 artists entered their creations into this yearโ€™s Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes, resulting in an incredible curation of Australian talent in the diverse and exciting work of the finalists. The pieces range from a mesmerising portrait of actress Nicole Kidman to a sunset painted on an old iPhone. Don’t miss out!

The Studio at Australian Fashion Week

From Monday to Friday, Australian Fashion Week is taking over Carriageworks, featuring huge Australian designers, emerging talent and a host of glamorous fashion lovers. Unfortunately, all runway shows are invite-only, however, this year the Australian Fashion Council are hosting The Studio, where guests can watch live streams of the runway shows and enjoy brand activations.

Catch the last week of Sydney Comedy Festival

It’s your last chance to go to NSW’s biggest comedy event this week, as the Sydney Comedy Festival comes to an end. Its 20th year has served us well, creating laughter from Penrith to the North Shore.

Kids and Family Day is taking over the Factory Theatre from 11am on Saturday, featuring free scavenger hunts, musical bingo and face painting. There will also be comedy “without the rude bits” so you and your family can laugh along to the jokes without worrying about your kids learning a new naughty vocabulary.

The Factory Theatre in Marrickville are hosting “Best of the Best” showcases every day from Wednesday through to Sunday. The one-hour showcase brings a surprise line-up of local stars to the stage, guaranteed to deliver comedy gold.

There’s also the “End of Festival Gala” at the Enmore Theatre on Sunday, the perfect way to get a last laugh in and reflect on the best comedic moments of the last month. Tickets start at $59.90, and the show begins at 7:30 pm.

Whale watching

The migration season is officially underway (in fact, it started earlier this year) so it’s time to head to the water’s edge, armed with your binoculars and cameras. There are several whale-watching cruises available, including Fantasea Cruising and Captain Cook Cruises. But there are plenty of viewpoints where you can spot passing humpbacks free of chargeโ€”and on solid ground. Take a look at the top coastal vantage points here.

See Anthony Warlow starring in Annie

Annie is back in Sydney at the Capitol Theatre in Haymarket. Directed by Karen Johnson Mortimer, the story of the orphan and the billionaire features a talented cast, including Broadway star Anthony Warlow and original Wiggle Greg Page (who will be making his musical theatre debut). The crowd-pleasing musical also stars a real-life dog as Sandy and special digital projections to add some excitement to the show.

MJ the Musical

MJ The Musical continues its stint at the Sydney Lyric Theatre. Head to Pyrmont to see the King of Popโ€™s famous choreography come to life in this thrilling musical biopic. Roman Banks has been highly acclaimed for his portrayal of MJ, as has Brisbane-based actor Liam Damons, who is making his professional theatre debut playing the star in his younger years.

The last week of RBG: Of Many, One

Award-winning Australian playwright Suzie Miller penned this story of American judicial legend Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The show has been popular with theatre-goers and critics alike, with lead Heather Mitchell receiving praise for her performance. This show finishes its run at the Opera House on May 17, so don’t miss out on this exciting production.

Pyrmont Food and Wine Festival

Pyrmont food and wine festival is transforming Pirrama Park into a foodie’s dream. The famous Oyster & Aburi Bar is back, serving freshly shucked oysters from the Sydney Fish Market. Wine lovers rejoice, as wineries from NSW regions conglomerate to offer you the finest reds, whites and rosรฉs on the Australian market. If beer is more your thing, fear not, as there will be local breweries and distilleries present. The festival is family-friendly, offering art classes, live entertainment and a designated kids zone for youngsters.

Butterboy open their new Broadway store

Butterboy is known for the long queues outside their Manly store, thanks to their scrumptious cookies. They gave us a taste of what’s to come with a Mother’s Day pop-up, however, the official opening of this cult-cookie bakery is this Friday. With an incredible array of flavours, from churro to strawberry and pistachio, Butterboy is at the top of Sydney’s cookie game, and their new Broadway store is sure to attracts plenty of customers.

Tommy Emmanuel

The Grammy-winning acoustic guitarist is back in his homeland, set to put on a dazzling show at the Sydney Opera House. Tommy Emmanuel is known for being one of the best acoustic guitar players in the world, bringing the energy and excitement of a full band to his dynamic solo performances.

How do we know he’s brilliant (aside from that Grammy)? He was designated a C.G.P (certified guitar player) by Chet Atkins, who only handed this title to four guitarists within his whole lifetime.

Montell Fish at the Enmore Theatre

The US experimental musician and composer Montell Fish will be returning to Australia this week, with two exciting shows at the Enmore Theatre. His current tour follows the release of the single ‘deserve/energy’, released by Montell Fish’s musical moniker, dj gummy bear. If you like alternative pop and experimental R&B, check out his show, and also enjoy his dreamy supporting act, Kacey Hill.

Darlo Night Market

Darlo Night Market lights up the heart of Darlinghurst every third Saturday of the month, with an incredible variety of stalls and free entry for all. There’ll be vintage fashion, mouthwatering street food, and a lineup of funky DJs playing throughout the evening. Don’t miss out- skip this one and it will be three long weeks until the next!

The Rocks Market

The Rocks Market is on every Saturday and Sunday, offering a vibrant mix of stalls, including art, food, drinks, antiques, clothing and more. Located in one of Sydneyโ€™s most popular precincts, the Rocks market is a modern continuation of the areaโ€™s tradition of commerce and activity. Bondi Markets/ Bondi Farmers Market

The Bondi Markets take place right opposite Sydneyโ€™s most famous beach at Bondi Beach Public School. On Saturdays, the Bondi Farmers Market takes place, where stalls sell fresh produce, including groceries, freshly-baked goods, flowers and more. On Sundays, shop for more general goods, such as handmade jewellery, vintage clothing and unique homeware.

Kirribilli Markets

The Kirribilli Markets are some of the oldest markets in Sydney, with the first one taking place in 1976 in the backyard of the then newly opened Kirribilli Neighbourhood Centre. Now, the markets feature over 220 stalls, selling things from gourmet food to handmade jewellery. The markets normally have a theme to describe which stalls will be present, for example, this weekโ€™s is โ€œArt, Design & Fashionโ€.

Glebe Markets

Glebe Markets

The best market in the Inner West features a beautifully chaotic blend of everything, including vintage clothing, jewellery, crochet figures and croc jibbitz. Thereโ€™s also great food, drink and produce on offer, especially the variety of baked goods, coffees and matcha lattes. If thatโ€™s not enough to entice you, every week, talented musicians grace the Glebe Markets stage to keep visitors entertained.

Carriageworks Farmers Markets

Carriageworks Farmers Markets is a celebration of fresh produce, vibrant bouquets, fresh seafood, grass-fed beef and seasonal fruit and veg (to name a few). Head over to Eveleigh on a Saturday to upgrade your pantry with organic goods.

Paddington Markets

Paddington markets have been open since 1973 and are the birthplace of many popular Australian brands. Dinosaur Designs, Zimmerman, Sass and Bide all began selling their designs at the Paddo markets. There are over 150 stalls at these markets, selling jewellery, clothes, sunglasses, art and antiques. There are also plenty of delicious food options, including popular stall Bobo Bakery, who are known for their burnt caramel cookies and brownie boxes.
