As part of the Westpac Openair Cinema schedule, Paul Hogan, the star of Crocodile Dundee will walk to the red carpet on the harbour for a screening of his famous movie.
He and the original filmmakers will gather to celebrate the premiere of the 4k digital restoration screening of the Australian epic, that was made 40 years ago.
The story is essentially a timeless romantic comedy – a man who has never journeyed beyond the outback travels to Manhattan in pursuit of the New York journalist he has fallen in love with. The film starts at 8:30 pm.
The Westpac Openair Cinema starts on Thursday, January 9, 2025, with tickets on sale on Monday, December 9, 2024.
The opening night gala preview starts with A Complete Unknown starring Timothée Chalamet and Elle Fanning. Chalamet has been applauded for his portrayal of a young Bob Dylan and the story follows Dylan’s life as he arrives as a 19-year-old unknown musician from Minnesota.
Some other highlights include the romantic drama We Live in Time starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh. When talented chef Almut (Florence Pugh) runs over freshly divorced Tobias (Andrew Garfield), their meeting ignites a passionate chemistry. As they fall for each other and embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken.
Also premiering is Queer with Daniel Craig and Jason Schwartzman. The romantic drama from director Luca Guadagnino (CALL ME BY YOUR NAME, A BIGGER SPLASH) is an adaptation of William S. Burroughs semi-autobiographical novel. Set in 1950s Mexico City, the film centres on William Lee, an American expatriate in his late forties, who has been living an isolated life within a small community of fellow ex-pats. His world changes when he encounters Eugene Allerton, a vibrant young student who encourages Lee to step out of his emotional isolation and form a meaningful bond. Their developing relationship delves into themes of yearning, love, and self-identity, as Lee starts to break free from his solitary existence.
The Westpac Openair Cinema will also host the first Sydney screening of Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman. Written and directed by Halina Reijn, the story follows Romy (Kidman), a powerful CEO, loving wife and mother of two who appears to have everything in place in her carefully constructed world. When a young intern at her company (Dickinson) shows an interest in the sexual fantasy missing from her life, a passionate affair is ignited.
