Virgin Australia is moving beyond the rainbow coloured liveries of pride flights to offer something even more exciting on the final weekend of the 47th annual Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras.
Fashioned for interstate visitors flying into Sydney from Melbourne and Brisbane, Virgin Australia’s first-ever sky-high disco flights will pack these special domestic flights with DJ sets and drag performances, drinks from the likes of Archie Rose and Brookvale Union, and even onboard glam stations from NYX Professional Makeup.
On Friday, February 28, two Virgin Australia pride flights will take off, one from Melbourne and one from Brisbane. Passengers will be getting much more than just a sky-high disco as well. Upon landing, guests will be whisked away on the DiDi Disco Bus for a special Landing Party at The Beresford with best-dressed competitions, special guests and a few surprises in store. Ovolo Woolloomooloo will then put on a special Pride Flight recovery brunch on Sunday, March 1 with brunch staples, bubbles and drag performances.
Passengers purchasing a pride flight will also need somewhere to stay while there in Sydney. Partners Ovolo Woolloomooloo are offering guests 15% off rooms so rates for anyone slaying the runway should sit at around $99 per night.
“Pride Flight is more than just a flight – it’s a celebration of diversity and inclusion,” said Virgin Australia Executive Lisa Burquest.
“We’re incredibly proud to bring people together in such a spectacular way and make this a standout event on our annual calendar for our teams and guests.”
Each of the two Virgin Australia pride flights have been designated special numbers to mark key moments in LGBTQIA+ history. Flying from Melbourne to Sydney, VA1978 is an homage to the year the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade began, while VA2017 takes off from Brisbane to Sydney, commemorating the year same-sex marriage was legalised in Australia.
Each Pride Flight ticket sold funds The Pinnacle Foundation, Australia’s LGBTQIA+ education charity.
Virgin Australia pride flight tickets are now on sale from virginaustralia.com with one-way prices from $269.
