The Lansdowne has always been the prototypical example of an Aussie pub. Sweaty, rowdy, completely lacking any shred of pretentiousness, and stubbornly dedicated to supporting local live music.
Since first opening in 1925, the deathless venue has proven that it’s always going to be here to stay. It has survived lockdowns, lockouts, development proposals, a dwindling Sydney nightlife, and ongoing competition. And so it deserves to gloat about its history as the pub celebrates its 100th year anniversary the best way they know how.
The pub’s current owners are getting romantic about these four walls of clinking pints and crispy wings, declaring the entire month of June the official Lansdowne Pub 100th birthday blowout with 30 days of live gigs, DJ sets, curated takeovers, and all the beers and wings we could possibly want.
Music has always set at the centre of The Lansdowne’s identity so most of the celebrations will revolve around the stage. Mind you, this is a stage that has hosted everyone from Billie Eilish to Spacey Jane, so it’s well worth celebrating. The organisers have put together a packed live music program that’ll run throughout the month, with names including Battlesnake, FANGZ, EGOISM, Porcelain Boy and Straight Arrows.

Every Friday night from 11pm, the dancefloor will be given over to the Motorik Vibe Council with a weekly late-night electronic session. Then you’ll have curated showcases from popular local labels including Beat Kitchen Records, Psyched As and USFET PRESENTS: NeX GEn.
“The Lansdowne Hotel is as iconic, if not more so, than the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House combined,” said venue booker Rich Bridgman.
“The unwavering passion of venue owners, promoters, artists, managers and bookings in Eora/Sydney over the past few years has been undeniable, and we’re keen to reveal a month-long celebration of programming across the musical spectrum, flowing between a range of genres and deep into the night.”
That’s the music taken care of. As for the food. Well, the pub isn’t doing much with the menu for June. Except they are dropping the price of their popular 1kg buckets of peri peri hot wings, right now down a very reasonable $10 for the entire month of June.
