Table Manners is a new beachside wine bar and restaurant in Bronte

Outside of wine bar and fashion boutique Bar Buci, Bronte has been overlooked by Sydney’s insatiable demand for more neighbourhood wine bars and intimate restaurants.

While the beachside suburb has plenty of pubs and modern cafes, there aren’t many intimate places to grab a tipple and a few snacks before or after a swim.

That has changed with the recent opening of Table Manners, a new 75-seat European restaurant and bar located on the busy strip of Macpherson Street. Owner Alex Cameron has brought in head chef Luke Churchill, who’s made a name for himself in two of Sydney’s finest kitchens: the swanky Parlar in Potts Point, and the ultra-premium Oncore by Clare Smyth atop Crown Sydney.

Given the location, a seafood-centric restaurant and bar should go down well with locals, and Cameron has pitched a flexible approach that caters to a wider variety of tastes. Guests can casually pop in for a few snacks and a tipple, or settle into a booth for a feast, picking at menu highlights like tuna belly toast, Hervey Bay scallops brushed with nduja, a playful Morton Bay Bug club sandwich, and Murray Cod served simply with pickled carrots and sauce Jacqueline.

Nodding to the ever-present demand for more generous wine programs, Cameron’s bookish wine list boasts 400 bottles and an attractive 30 wines by the glass. Guests can also BYO during lunch ($40 per bottle) or contend with signature concoctions like a dry negroni and an Indian-accented vodka-based creation with saffron, dry vermouth, allspice passionfruit, and pineapple.

Interior designer Blainey North has put together a gorgeous, minimal space that wouldn’t look out of place in the CBD. Plenty of natural light pours into the dining room, highlighting a beautiful hand-painted mural by Sydney artist Bec Fernon.

Given spring is right around the corner, Table Manners couldn’t have come at a more opportune time for locals and visitors looking for a new beachside restaurant.
