Family time is right around the corner as we steam towards the spring school holidays (Monday, September 29 to Friday, October 10), bringing Sydney to life with all-ages activities that cleverly mix education with entertainment. 1. Peppa Pig comes to Sydney Zoo

Peppa, George, Mum and Daddy Pig are all heading over to Sydney Zoo to help kids get into school holiday mode. From September 27 to October 12, the whole gang from Peppa Pig will be on hand with an interactive, fun-filled experience with one guest in tow. Little adventurers and Peppa Pig obsessives will be able to meet baby Evie in person for the very first time, with all the cuddles and photo opportunities the little ones could ask for.

The Peppa Pig Family Mini Shows run for approximately 25 minutes in the Sydney Zoo Amphitheatre and will include plenty of audience participation so kids can be as involved as they want while singing, dancing and playing their way into Peppa’s world.

The world-class Western Sydney Zoo is also open for the entire show so kids can kick on with numerous trails that take them by over 4,000 animals, including Australia’s largest reptile and nocturnal house and aquarium.

Sydney Opera House always have some great edutainment going each time the school holidays hit Sydney. For spring, the show to see is Moss Piglet. It’s a digestible, unique production built on the idea that sometimes the biggest things are accomplished by the tiniest of things. Moss Piglet’s creators have created an entire microscopic world of small, petri-dish-sized critters that venture on an epic journey of biology and life, brought to life through the use of puppetry, choreography, live video and green screen technology.

It’s a great way to encourage a sense of confidence in kids, helping them find their own voice through edutainment.

3. Family fun at Featherdale Wildlife Park

9. Where to Hide a Star

The Australian Chamber Orchestra continue their delightful family series in October with Where to Hide a Star, a sequel to Oliver Jeffers’ inspired How to Catch a Star. Kids will be taken on a movie adventure about the values of imagination, courage and empathy, all baked into a 30-minute performance following by a chance to meet and greet with the musicians who bring it all to life.

The show runs for 10 days at ACO On The Pier, which also has a free creative play area so kids can keep themselves entertained before and after the show.

10. The Giant Balloon Show

What happens when an award-winning entertainer sets out on a noble quest to discover everything there is to know about balloons? You get an evening of feverous balloon sculptures, high-energy comic performances and some giant, behemoth balloons, combining gags, tricks and great music.
