  • Wednesday Island: Sydney’s Cockatoo Island will be reborn for a one-day festival on Saturday, August 16
  • Stars of the Netflix series will be celebrating the release of Wednesday season two
  • Expect themed cocktails, a haunted house, a cabaret show and performances from Peach PRC and ÜLA

Sydney, brace yourself: things are about to get a little darker (and a lot more interesting).

Netflix’s runaway hit Wednesday is returning for a second season this August, but before it hits your screen, it’s creeping into real life. The final stop of the global Doom Tour is none other than Sydney, where Wednesday Addams, her fellow outcasts and the twisted minds behind the show are conjuring a gothic island experience like no other.

Wednesday Island will rise from Sydney Harbour for one day only on Saturday, August 16.

Taking over the appropriately eerie Cockatoo Island/Wareamah, Wednesday Island will transform the heritage site into a shadowy Nevermore playground filled with creepy surprises and ghoulish entertainment. Expect gothic glam, deadpan humour and a touch of supernatural mischief, all under the watchful eye of the macabre queen herself.

What to expect on Wednesday Island

The immersive experience brings to life the twisted, whimsical world of Nevermore Academy with a series of creepy activations and devilishly good fun:

  • Nevermore Academy: Embrace your inner outcast whether you’re a siren, werewolf, gorgon or just weird enough to belong.
  • The Doll House: A haunted maze of secrets. Enter if you dare. Exit… if you can.
  • The Dead Lounge: Sip sinister cocktails in a bar where the ice is cold, and the company colder.
  • Decay Cabaret: A delightfully dreadful stage show, where the living perform and the dead applaud.
  • Live performances: Haunting sets from Peach PRC and ŪLA will soundtrack the evening.

Plus, organisers promise “a most grave surprise” still to be revealed. Intrigued? You should be.

Star-studded appearances

If all that wasn’t enough to tempt your darker side, the event will also feature appearances by Wednesday herself, Jenny Ortega, her on-screen bestie Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair) and executive producer and master of all things macabre, Tim Burton. Overseers of the show, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, will also oversee the island action.

How to get in

This isn’t your average event. You can’t just buy a ticket, you need to apply for admission to Nevermore.

Good news though! Applications are now open. As of today, fans can head to wednesdayisland.com.au and hit the General Admission button to throw their name into the coffin. Fill in your details and write a short 25-word answer to: “Confess your most delightfully deviant Outcast trait — the kind that would make Wednesday smirk with approval.”

You have until Sunday, August 3 to enter.

The most original, witty and Wednesday-worthy answers will win. Selected guests will be notified on Monday, August 4.

Whether you’re a die-hard Addams Family fan, a Netflix binger or just looking for a weird and wonderful night out in Sydney, Wednesday Island promises an experience that’s dark, dazzling and utterly unforgettable. Gothic glamour, eerie entertainment and a dose of deadpan charm? That’s our kind of night.
