  • Australian rock legends AC/DC announced a return Down Under earlier this week.
  • Tickets for their Power Up tour have gone on sale today, with no pre-sale.
  • Sydney was the first city to get its hands on tickets and a second date has been added before the first sold out.

AC/DC tickets for the legendary band’s Aussie tour went on sale today – and sparked a frenzy, as fans battled to get their coveted places.

Angry fans took to social media to slam the chaos of the ticketing system, though it was fairly typical of big tour ticket sales around the world.

The boys themselves are enjoying a Euro summer, playing in Prague tonight before moving on to Germany, Spain, Scandinavia and beyond. They’ll then return Down Under for the first time in more than a decade in November.

They last toured Australia on the domestic leg of the Rock or Bust world tour back in 2015, which saw them perform 11 shows across Australia and New Zealand.

Sydney was the first to get its hands on tickets, and in an usual move nowadays, there was no pre-sale; general sale started at 9am. We joined the virtual queue at 9am and are currently at 42,595th position. It’s not quite the craziness seen last year when Oasis tickets went on sale, nor the infamous Eras Tour ticket battle, but the aging rockers have still got it.

In fact, demand is so high, they’ve quietly added a second date mid-way through this morning’s Sydney sale, so you have a second shot at getting tickets.

AC/DC say no to pre-sale pantomime

TEG Van Egmond is the promoter of the Power Up tour, and is part of the outfit that also owns Ticketek, the vendor for the stadium shows. AC/DC has been with Van Egmond for four decades, working first with Garry Van Egmond on their 1985 Fly On The Wall tour, and now entering into a second-generation partnership with his son, Christo Van Egmond.

Christo was just nine years old when he saw his first AC/DC concert, and he worked on the band’s last Australian shows on the Rock or Bust tour.

Tickets for all five Australian stadium shows go on general sale today. Times are staggered, to give the Ticketek site the best chance of survival, but it’s a definite departure from the norm.

Nowadays, there’s usually a pre-sale drop before the general sale. But AC/DC have given that tactic a hard pass. It’s an all-in, with virtual gates opening for all fans at the same time (depending on city) so it doesn’t matter who you know or which ticket-selling giant you’ve pledged allegiance with.

Speaking to The Australian, Christo said: “Itโ€™s generated a lot of hype. I think AC/DC has got a very loyal fan base, but like any big concert โ€” Taylor Swift, for example โ€” itโ€™s got to be an event, and everyone wants to go and see it. Itโ€™s feeling that way, which is good, and that definitely resonates with what happened in 2010 when it went bananas.โ€

โ€œD-Day is looming,โ€ Van Egmond said on Tuesday, the day after the tour announcement.

Calls for a second Sydney date

At the time of writing, we’ve got through the queue and there are still some tickets left โ€” but they’re going fast. Results seem to be mixed on Facebook, too. While some fans are celebrating, others are slamming Ticketek for its “extremely flawed” system and only replying to positive comments.

Sarah Vagas commented: “Itโ€™s soooo bad I got kicked off twice at payment, now back in line 20000 ahead oh and itโ€™s mostly single tickets now. There needs to be a better way.”

Blake Troy is also “beyond furious” and demands “Answer your phones. Booted out twice at payment stage when within my time limit.”

There are also a number of comments calling for a second Sydney show to be added. Not because it’s sold out, though, Darren Hlynka “just want(s) 2nd show.” While it seems like a laughable request ‘just because,’ the calls seem to have been answered.

We refreshed the page, rejoined the queue and the message has changed.

ACDC Sydney Date Added
A second Sydney date appears to have been added mid-way through ticket sales this morning.

What was previously a one-night-only show on Friday, November 21, is down a two-date spectacle. Tuesday, November 25 appears to have been added to the messaging mid-way through this morning’s sale. Facebook fans will be happy โ€” as long as they’re not booted out like Sarah or Blake.
