We’ve known that the ever-reliable QT Hotels & Resorts have earmarked their third Sydney property for the Second CBD of Parramatta for years now. And that’s still well underway. Plus, IHG hotels recently revealed plans for an InterContinental. Now another major brand is racing for Parramatta’s rising profile, with Marriott planning to open the 279-bed, five-star Sydney Marriott Hotel Parramatta by 2027.

Build it and they will come, they say. And this rings true for the heart of Western Sydney’s rapid development. We know the City of Sydney are banking big on Parramatta becoming a tourist hotspot. Having luxury hotels from big-name brands on the radar is certainly going to help with those ambitions.

Announced this week, Marriot International has tapped property developers JQZ to build the hotel on Church Street as part of a new mixed-use development. It’s part of an ongoing and significant stream of private investment flowing into Sydney’s ostensible second CBD as we move closer to the opening of the highly touted Western Sydney Airport.

The new hotel is expected to feature an M Club Lounge, a restaurant and separate cafe, a lobby lounge, fitness centre and a rooftop swimming pool. This is in addition to extensive function and meeting facilities to help lure business travellers out to the west.

“Marriot’s legacy of excellence and commitment to service deeply aligns with JQZ’s core values of creating spaces that inspire connection and belonging, and their principles of integrity, inclusivity and community-first hospitality resonate strongly with our vision,” said a spokesperson for JQZ.

“Our collaboration with Marriott International represents a bold step towards positioning Parramatta on the global stage, and our shared dedication to elevating experiences servicing the needs of our local community and international travellers.”

Talk about building Parramatta up to become Sydney’s second CBD have been floating around for nearly a decade now, but it’s finally look like we’re really on track to watch this Western Sydney hub expand the city in surprising ways. Major infrastructure projects currently in the works include WestConnex, the Parramatta Light Rail, the Metro West rail line, and of course, Western Sydney Airport.

That should ensure these hotels have absolutely no problem with occupancy rates.

More details about the new Marriott in Parramatta will be released closer to the date.
