Paddy’s Markets—or Paddy’s as it’s known—dates back to 1834, when the hay and grain traders space was established alongside the cattle market on Campbell Street. Since then, Paddy’s has grown to become one of Sydney’s biggest markets, offering food, fashion, music, books, souvenirs and everything in between. It’s a true market atmosphere, perfect for those who like to get amongst the action.
The expansion of its food and beverage offering has been in the works for three years now and we’re a matter of days away from seeing the fruits of their labour.
What will Hay St Market offer?
They are claiming to be “Sydney’s biggest foodie market” and if reports of the 3,000 square metre space are accurate, they may well be.
Hay St Market is designed to celebrate the city’s cultural and culinary diversity, paying homage to Paddy’s rich history and its reputation as a market full of surprises. Across the vast space, 47 food and beverage brands and concepts will present an eclectic mix of dining options. There will be two licensed bars, 16 hawker stations, a central food market, an on-site coffee roaster, a seasonal fresh produce offer, a glass encased sustainable urban farm and a selection of roaming mobile carts.
Some of the outlets already announced include Pasta e Basta, The Fish Co and Taco Nixtamal, demonstrating the range of cuisines that will be available.
When will it open?
Hay St Market will open at Paddy’s Markets Haymarket on Wednesday, March 26. It will be open daily from early morning to late evening. It will be free to enter but charges will apply at the food and drink outlets.
