Will Sydney’s viral Harry Potter Christmas lights return in 2024?

  • The Harry Potter Christmas lights in Sydney were a major hit for the Harbour City in 2023.
  • Warner Bros. Discovery teamed up with a home in Ramsgate Beach for the elaborate display.
  • Fans are already speculating whether or not Warner Bros. Discovery will being back to Wizarding World decorations in 2024.

The spirit of Harry Potter and the Wizarding World was given new life last year when a humble residential home in the South Sydney suburb of Ramsgate Beach revealed an extravagant display of Harry Potter Christmas lights.

Swiftly going viral, the elaborate Wizarding World references and theatrical Harry Potter display even made it onto the official harrypotter.com website, leading people to believe it was an official Christmas lights display by Warner Bros. Discovery. After all, the website seemed to claim responsibility for the epic lighting display, which was up from December 13, 2023 to Boxing Day.

“Warner Bros. Discovery is inviting Australia-based Harry Potter fans to [a] truly spectacular Christmas lights display in Sydney from 13th to 26th December,” read the news article.

“With a wave of the wand, one Muggle home in the Australian suburbs will transform into a spellbinding display of festive splendour, beinging the magic of Hogwarts to life with some beautiful arranged Christmas lights.”

As the story goes, Warner Bros. Discovery transformed a regular Aussie home on Alfred Street in Ramsgate Beach into this remarkably immersive world marrying Christmas standards with Harry Potter references and inviting all the witches, wizards and Muggles to come view it all for free.

In this scene, Santa had switched out his signature sleigh and gave all his reindeer—even Rudolph—redundancy packages, choosing instead to be led by Threstrals in a carriage. Elsewhere around the house, fans spotted five hidden Dobby statues between two giant Christmas trees that were adorned with the Hogwarts house colours. Yet they both played second fiddle to the Whomping Willow tree, which was dressed with luminous Patronus Animals.

The Harry Potter-themed Christmas display also came with floating candles, an oversized replica of Harry Potter’s glasses and more fun references from the film and book franchise.

But will it return in 2024 or was this just a one off?

There has been no official word about the Harry Potter Christmas lights in Sydney popping back up for the 2024 holiday season, although we do know that a few other Sydney favourites like the Davidson Christmas lights are coming back after years of absence.

We’ll have to wait until around December 13 to find out if Warner Bros. Discovery and this Ramsgate Beach home are teaming back up for a Harry Potter Christmas display. Although it’s just as likely that Warner Bros. Discovery could take its Harry Potter-themed Christmas lights into another suburb of Sydney (or even head on down to Melbourne) to spread the Wizarding World cheer.

If they are coming back this year, The Harry Potter Christmas lights display will be at 30 Alfred St, Ramsgate Beach. This is a private property so be respectful if heading along to view these Wizarding World decorations.
