Halloween is no longer an afterthought in Sydney. While the traditionally American holiday has always been a bit flat in Australia, the Harbour City is waving the gas lantern high for freakier, more immersive parties to celebrate the spookiest day of the year.

Expect Sydney to turn into a playground of fresh bodies, resurrected corpses, and ghoulish celebrations that’ll dance everywhere from The Rocks and Luna Park to Entertainment Quarter and Campbelltown this year. I for one welcome our newfound sense of style when All Hallow’s Eve hits, especially since last year’s Ghost Festival in The Rocks really took things to the next level.

If you’re wondering where to party this Halloween in Sydney, I’ve put together a quick-fire hit list for you so you can grab your mates, let your imagination run wild, and win any and every “best dressed” prize in town. You’re a star, you’ve got this. Just don’t dress up as a packet of Moo Deng, because that was so last year.

Halloween in Sydney is bigger than ever before—here’s where to celebrate

1. Go for a ride At Luna Park’s Halloscreem

Luna Park’s annual Halloween celebration is back, giving Sydney one of it’s biggest and most immersive spooktaculars right on the water’s edge. Duck through the giant mouth and enter a world devilishly designed for a good scare with actors and dances, haunted labyrinths and rides that have been completely transformed to fit the theme.

This is the apex as far as family-friendly Halloween events in Sydney go. Luna Park surrenders its entire park to the whims of ghouls and ghosts that are so real and vivid even the big kids leave with the trembles. It’s on for three days so you can pair this up with some other Halloween parties across Sydney.

Where: Luna Park, Sydney

2. The Argyle rises from the dead

If Sydney’s nightlife is indeed dead [it’s not], then what better time to conjure up a club so deeply entrenched in the city’s history than on All Hallow’s Eve. For one night only, The Collective will revert back to the old Argyle days with a full-throttle Halloween takeover that’s damn near impossible to ignore.

Framed by its massive sandstone walls, the multi-faceted restaurant and bar precinct shifts away from food and drink and bring back the dancefloors of old from 9pm to 2am. Dressing up is mandatory, so you can expect a night of high-concept Halloween costumes flailing to live DJs all night with heightened energy and a wall of sound.

And we really do mean dressing up is compulsory. The Collective even goes so far as to say the policy will be “strictly enforced” so don’t waste your money and rock up with no effort.

Where: The Collective, The Rocks
When: Friday, October 31 (9pm – 2am)

Ghost Festival The Rocks

3. Soak up Sydney’s haunted history with Ghost in The Rocks

If Sydney has secrets, The Rocks is where they whisper the loudest. This Halloween, the historic harbourside precinct turns into a walking tale of things that go bump in the night. Ghost in The Rocks takes guests down narrow laneways and into shadowy corners, unearthing stories of convicts, mysteries, and restless spirits. It’s part history, part haunting, and entirely atmospheric.

The area-wide event debuted last year to huge acclaim, so look for this year’s edition to be even bigger. And yes, that huge Halloween rave is back, taking over one of the most historic buildings in The Rocks for four floors of immersive 18+ fun.

Where: The Rocks, Sydney
When: Thursday, October 30 – Sunday, November 2

4. Jurassic Lounge is back with a roar (and a scream)

Sydney’s most iconic museum is getting a monstrous makeover. Jurassic Lounge returns to the Australian Museum with a Halloween Edition where you can dance among dinosaurs, sip cocktails beside skeletons, and lose yourself in a maze of music, light, and performance. It’s one of the city’s most beloved after-dark events, and it’s back with a prehistoric roar-and-scream that should fit nicely in that balance between all-out party and social catch-up.

Jurassic Lounge has been popping up occasionally for years now and it’s always a good time, giving you a Night at The Museum with innovative themed spaces in all of the museum’s main galleries. Plus, it’s on the week before Halloween so you can double up on the actual date with a party at The Argyle or a pop into The Rocks.

Where: Australian Museum, Sydney
When: Saturday, October 25 (6:30pm – 10pm)
Price: Starting at $48 from australian.museum

7. Festival of Fisher’s Ghost

Few ghost stories are as woven into local legend as Fred Fisher’s. Every year, Campbelltown honours its most famous spirit with a festival that blurs the line between myth and memory. What began as a small community gathering has grown into a full-scale celebration, complete with street parades, fireworks, art exhibitions, and live music spilling through the town. It’s part folklore, part homecoming, and completely alive with the sense that you’re walking through a story passed down for generations.

By the time Halloween weekend arrives, the town hums with energy. Locals and visitors fill the streets, the air smells of food trucks and fireworks, and there’s a feeling that Fred himself might be watching from the crowd. Expect nothing different for this year’s edition, which kicks off on Halloween and runs until early November so you can keep the scares going. for visiting families, it’s a great excuse to head on out the South-West Sydney and really explore the area.

Where: Campbelltown Showground
When: Thursday, October 30, 2025 – Sunday, November 9, 2025
Price: Free (some rides charge a fee) from campbelltown.nsw.gov.au
