Theatre Royal gears up for Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’

Shake & Stir Theatre Co and John Frost of Crossroads Live have adapted Mary Shelley’s legendary tale of Frankenstein for one of the most unique stage shows coming to Sydney in the tail-end of 2024.

Running from September 28 through to October 13, the classic adaptation by director Nick Skubij  follows a legacy dating back to the classic 1818 novel about a young scientist who conjures up a sapient creature via an unorthodox scientific experiment.

When Shelley first penned this novel, she pioneered a concept that’d go on to influence pop culture for centuries, touching everything from Weird Science to Game of Thrones. Now it’ll be supersized for the one of Sydney’s greatest stages, combining classic elements from the story with cutting-edge visuals elevated by automation, pyrotechnics and over 140 square metres of a LED video panels.

Its arrival in Sydney follows a sell-out season at the Queensland Performance Arts Centre last year, where reviews touted the productions sense of scale and fantastic performances by lead Darcy Brown (as Doctor Victor Frankenstein) and Jeremiah Wray (as ‘The Creature’). They will be supported by Chloe Zuel, Anna Lise Phillips, Tony Cogin and Nick James.

Tickets are on sale now for the limited season, which kicks off this Saturday.
