What’s on in Sydney this Easter: family events and shows

Set to be a jam-packed, multi-week celebration, Easter is bringing a wave of family-friendly events, shows, fairs and carnivals to suburbs right across Sydney.

From mid-March to the April long weekend, a wave of markets, carnivals and community fairs will pop up throughout the city, characterised by colour, fun and, of course, all the chocolate you could dream of.

The Easter calendar will be anchored by the iconic Sydney Royal Easter Show (April 2-13), alongside the more budget-friendly Sydney Family Easter Show. The busiest stretch falls between April 2 and April 6, when multiple large-scale events, egg hunts and fairs overlap across Sydney. Popular one-day events and free community festivals will kick off even earlier, from March 20 onwards, marking the exciting build-up to the long weekend.

With so many incredible events popping up, make sure to book your tickets early to avoid disappointment or surges in prices. Smaller workshops, craft sessions and Easter Bunny experiences often have limited spots and require pre-booking, whereas major events like the Sydney Royal Easter Show offer discounted Early Bird Tickets to those who book earlier.

Read on to find out which family-friendly Easter events you should book now.

The Big Easter Events

Sydney Royal Easter Show at Sydney Olympic Park

We all know the main Easter event in Sydney is the Royal Easter Show, an iconic annual celebration of modern Aussie culture, rural traditions and incredible produce.

Blending in elements of an amusement park and fair, wood-chopping competitions, and interactive animal shows, the Easter spectacle will be high on any kids’ (and adults’) radar, thanks to its endless program of fun.

This year, the show will return to Sydney Showground from April 2 to 13, with gates opening at 8:30am each day, closing at 9pm. You can buy your tickets for the Show through the official link here, which also includes same-day return public transport.

Visitors are encouraged to catch a train to Olympic Park Station as car parks in the area are in high demand during the Show’s stint. If you have to drive, make sure to pre-book your parking here to avoid missing out.

For families keen to avoid crowds, we’d recommend heading to the show for its opening or arriving later in the day, after 5pm. You’ll find that the Sydney Showgrounds start to get busiest in the mid-morning to early afternoon, at around 11am to 2pm.

So what can you do at the Sydney Royal Easter Show? I’d recommend stopping by the wood-chopping competitions to admire the strength of the competitors in this very niche sport. If you love animals, make sure to pet a chick, milk a cow or stop by the adorable dog shows at the Advance Dog Pavilion. Treat your kids to a showbag at the Showbag Pavilion, or sample some freebies at one of the many food stalls selling local produce in the Woolworths Fresh Food Dome.

Adrenaline seekers should grab a Carnival Fun Pass and load it with credits for seamless access to the rides. From racing down a giant slide to braving a haunted house or taking in the view from the Ferris wheel, it’s the simplest way to keep the fun going without the hassle of buying individual tickets.

Entertainment Quarter’s Sydney Family Easter Show

Not to be mistaken with the larger Sydney Royal Easter Show, the Ingenia Holiday Parks Family Easter Show takes place at the Entertainment Quarter from April 2 to April 19. The show transforms the EQ into a vibrant Easter playground, offering live entertainment, showbags, rides, Easter egg hunts and hands-on activities for all ages.

The Ingenia Holiday Parks Family Easter Show is significantly cheaper than the Sydney Royal Easter Show, with tickets starting at $30 per adult and $15 per child (in comparison to $47 early bird adult passes to the Royal Easter Show and $29 tickets for children). If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly Easter Day out, which still includes all the usual Easter fun, this is a great, affordable option.

You can purchase your tickets to the event through the official link here.
