- Hunter St Hospitality is opening a new steak restaurant in Sydney next month.
- 24 York, will have a limited menu โ its only main will be steak frites.
- It follows the model of the viral French steak frites restaurant, Le Relais De Venise.
Hunter St Hospitality, the team behind popular Sydney restaurants such as Rockpool Bar & Grill and The Collective, will open a new restaurant in July. The catch? There’s only one dish on the menu: steak frites.
The hospitality group has been busy in Sydney, recently opening the Collective, a luxurious dining hub in the space that used to house the iconic nightclub, The Argyle. Three new spaces โ The Garden, The Dining Room and Tailor Room โ sit alongside two established favourites, also from Hunter St Hospitality: contemporary Japanese restaurant Sakรฉ and premium steakhouse The Cut Bar & Grill.ย

While The Collective offers a variety of dining and drinking experiences, 24 York will stick to what the group does best: an expertly-prepared cut of steak.
The menu
At 24 York, a scotch fillet cut from Gippsland will be the steak of choice, as well as a green salad, a cheesecake tart and four different wines, available by the bottle and the glass. Guests can choose between four sauces: umami butter, peppercorn, mushroom or chimichurri.
Their concise cocktail list will include a Martini, Negroni, Old Fashioned and Spicy Margarita. There will be Asahi and Resch’s on tap.
The team of chefs decided on the 220g scotch fillet from Gippsland producer O’Connor, proclaiming it the best out of all the steaks they tried. It’s the same MB2+ scotch fillet cut found on the Rockpool Bar & Grill menu, but costs a fraction of the price, at $48 (with chips and sauce).
Santi Aristizabal, Executive Chef at Rockpool Bar & Grill, said, “There’s a quiet confidence in doing just one thing exceptionally well.”
“We used a 220g scotch fillet from O’Connor in Gippslandโ the same premium cut we serve at Rockpool Melbourne. It has the perfect balance of fat and flavour, grills beautifully, and arrives sliced, accompanied simply by hot fries and your choice of sauce. That’s it. No fluff.”
The 160-seat restaurant will open on Wednesday, July 23, in the former space of The Bavarian. Instead of pork knuckles and steins of German beer, 24 York will focus on a more upscale experience.

The influence of Le Relais De Venise
It’s a business model already popular in cities including London, New York and Paris, where Le Relais De Venise (or L’Entrecรดte, as it’s often referred to) has only served entrecรดte steak with a secret sauce and fries, a crunchy walnut salad and three desserts: profiteroles, tulipe au chocolat and fruit tarts.
In London, the limited set menu costs ยฃ29 per person (roughly $60) and gets you two helpings of steak frites, as well as that walnut salad and a serving of bread. By the city’s pricing standards, this is incredibly good value.
Walking past any of the restaurants, you’ll often see huge queues spilling out onto the street, which people attribute to TikTok fame, perfect steak and reasonable prices. Hunter St Hospitality will no doubt be looking to replicate this success.
Sydney is ranked the best steak city in the world
The news also comes soon after Sydney was rated the World’s Best Steak City, beating strong competition from Buenos Aires and Madrid to take the top spot.
