Where are the best burgers in Western Sydney? They aren’t where you’d expect.

If you would have asked me five years ago where the best burgers in Western Sydney are, the below food guide would have looked a lot different. Back then, the Michelin-powered Burger Head was dominating the scene in Penrith, hitting so hard and consistently that people would travel from all over the city to munch on their masterfully engineered classic burgers. You also had more presence for burgers in Parramatta, but a few of those shops have now sadly closed.

Perhaps the timing wasn’t right. Given the time to focus on the west is now; some of these burger businesses might have been too far ahead of the curb, not properly capitalising on the fact that the rest is now heading west.

We’ve got to get Western Sydney ready for the burst in tourism ahead of the 2026 opening for Western Sydney International Airport, after all. And that means the already strong, wonderfully diverse food scene out in Western Sydney is inevitably going to swell, hitting hard at every price point.

There’s every chance that this entire best burgers in Western Sydney list could change within a matter of months with new openings always on the horizon. For now, however, these are what I think are the best burgers in Western Sydney, from Punchbowl and Parramatta to Granville and Sefton.

Are these the best burgers in Western Sydney in 2025?

1. BL Burgers, Parramatta

BL Burgers is one of the biggest success stories for any independent fast-casual chain in Sydney, flowing out from its original location at Circular Quay’s Bar Luca and opening up several burger-only spin-offs around town, from Bondi Beach to Parramatta. Some have closed since, but just about every Sydneysider has gotten their mouths around the Blame Canada, a sweet, one-of-one poutine burger with maple aioli at least once. It’s easily one of Sydney’s best burgers.

But there’s so much more to this business than a viral Canadian-inspired burger. When Sydney’s burger wars were at their peak, most of the talk revolved around supersizing burgers with “hacks”. There was even a Facebook group, Fatties Burger Appreciation Society (95,000 members) where food bloggers, critics and burger aficionados alike would regularly discuss the scene, and who had the best “hacks” (or, simply, add-on ingredients).

BL Burgers lists a whole lot of them. Want to stuff some beer battered onion rings onto your already monstrously large burger? Go for it. $5 extra will get you a massive deep fried mozzarella patty to up the indulgence, and there’s also southern fried chicken thigh, maple glazed bacon, liquid cheese and more. It’s that build-your-own-adventure approach that McDonalds takes, but with fifty times the quality and flavour.

The other major part of the business is weekly specials. Creative ones as well, usually so wildly popular (sometimes even topical and inspired by current world events and pop culture) that BL Burgers hosts a special week ever year where they bring back the most popular specials of that year. Queues always pound straight out the door and down the block.

2. Firefly Burger, Granville

200 grams of fried chicken slapped onto a gorgeously soft and chewy milk bun and drizzled with Tunisian thyme sauce with crispy coleslaw. Yeah, this isn’t your typical fried chicken burger. Nothing about Firefly is standard, for that matter. The sizeable selection of fresh, gourmet burgers includes everything from a brisket sandwich and honey onion burger, to the spice-tastic Backfire, with chilli, chilli sauce lava, jalapaneos, and a 150 gram beef patty that’s been injected with hot sauce. Did we mention that it’s spicy? Very spicy.

3. AJ Burgers, Lidcombe & Sefton

With two locations in Western Sydney (one in Lidcombe, one in Sefton), AJ Burgers fits the bill for those who like the crispy edges of a perfectly handled, hand-smashed patty. They love them here, and it’s what made them famous in Sefton for years before they were able to expand to a second venture in Lidcombe.

Both fire on all cylinders throughout the week. The menu is large, but not too large. the flavour profiles are simple and high-quality, and the ambiance sticks to the 90s, helping this relatively new burger shop feel much, much older than it is. The retro aesthetic is part of the experience.

4. BurgerQue, Minchinbury

I’ve never heard of a burger quite like the Heavy Hitter. Minchinbury, a tiny suburb squashed near Rooty Hill and Mount Druitt, is somewhere not even many Sydneysiders would have heard of, but it’s possibly the only place in the world where you can grab an incredible burger with premium beef patty, cheese, special cabbage slaw, beetroot, lettuce, onion, housemade burgerQue sauce andโ€”the kickerโ€”both pastirma and sucuk, two very intense dried meats used most commonly in Turkish cuisine.

The burgers, all of them halal, strike that hard-won balance between all flavours, which is an incredible achievement given how just rich both of those aforementioned meats are. The overall flavour profile from the Heavy Hitter makes its mark from the very first bite; it’s unforgettable. I’ve only been out the open-air burger stall twice over the past year but it was more than enough to firmly stamp my love for this excellent Western Sydney burger.

5. Chebbo’s Burgers, Roselands

Founder and social media personality Ali Chebbani should be credited with reviving Sydney’s waning love of burgers a few years ago but opening up Chebbo’s Burgers, now in both Marrickville and Roselands. The allure is those crispy smash patties using a brisket blend with classic, old-school American-style toppings. The signature is the best, taking a smash pattie and squashing it into a milk bun with American cheddar, tomato, fresh red onion and crispy green oak lettuce leaves. You can never beat the classics.
