Australia Day 2025 trading hours: What’s open this long weekend?

Australia Day falls on Sunday, January 26 in 2025, which means that Monday, January 27 will be the public holiday. With the first long weekend of the year, you might be wondering what’s open when it comes to all the major stores and services around Sydney.

Check out our full guide on Australia Day trading hours so you know exactly where you can shop this long weekend.

Woolworths

Some Woolworths stores in other Australian states will pause trading on Australia Day but it seems NSW is an exception. Every Woolworths supermarket across the state is scheduled to remain open on January 26 and 27, although individual store hours may vary so we recommend checking with your local.

Coles

All Coles supermarkets across Australia are posting up standard trading hours for January 26. There may be a few stores closed on the Monday, however, so its best to check with your local.

ALDI

Generally all ALDI stores across Australia will open for both the Australia Day long weekend and the Monday public holiday. Although people are being advised to check with their local store as individual store trading hours may vary.

Bunnings

If you’re Australia Day long weekend will be giving the house a new coat of paint, then you’ll need to get across your local Bunnings store’s opening hours. Luckily all Bunnings stores across Australia will open, excluding stores located in Trade Centres. Opening times will vary so your best off checking with your local Bunnings before thinking you rock up at 9am on Australia Day.

Target

All Target stores in Sydney will be open on Australia Day, January 26, as well as the Monday. Exact opening times may vary by individual store so you should check with your local.

Kmart

Much like Target, all Kmart stores will remain open on January 26. It looks like they will all be trading on the Monday too so expect no disruptions if you need something from the ubiquitous department store. That said, individual store hours may slightly vary so you’re best off checking with your local.

Big W

All Big W stores in NSW will be open on both January 26 and 27.

All Westfield stores will be open this Australia Day long weekend (photo supplied).

Westfield

You can safely expect your local Westfield shopping centre to be open on both Australia Day and the Monday, January 27 public holiday. There may be some altered trading hours so please check with your individual centre before heading along.

Liquorland, Vintage Cellars & First Choice Liquor

Given their parent companies will be open, all the major liquor stores will also continue trading both Sunday and Tuesday. Most Liquorland, Vintage Cellars and First Choice Liquor stores will be open on Australia Day and Monday’s public holiday.

Dan Murphys & BWS

Neither of Australia’s two biggest liquor store chains are going anywhere this weekend. Most Dan Murphy’s stores will be open by 10am on Australia Day and the Monday public holiday, with closing time set for 6pm or 7pm.
